We have been here long enough to have accumulated piles of various complicated recycling, and it was finally time to drag everything down to the nearest recycling centers. Naturally, it is needlessly complicated…
The entire apparatus is under lock and key (I guess to prevent over-zealous recyclers from overflowing it all?) but unlocking it is only Step One. Step Two is to figure out why none of the lids will open even now that it’s unlocked… turns out that this car-accelerator type pedal was the hidden trick, you have to step down on it while attempting to open a particular section…. But all this was worth it for the spectacular views just across the street!
Literally the view directly across from the nasty recycle stationSame vantage point, looking to the right this time
It’s been chillingly cold this month pretty much every day, with rain on and off, and the forecast has highs in the mid-fifties as far as the eye can see, but sheesh it’s worth it.
Here are a couple views right now from the other side of town:
On the way home I witnessed a classic Italian stand-off 😀haha note that in this pic, the out-going car is now a different one, and then the Weaker Car is finally free to goAnd now some random new car is doing a bizarre dance in front of me, blocking my way (which always seems to be the point)Sam’s schedule this evening is pretty full, so we’re eating in tonight: quesadillas with left-over pork & the salsa we packed from home Good view of our small but functional kitchenHere are two complete pages of trash & recycling instructions….
Now it’s the next day and time for lunch!
Yup it’s back to our favorite store againAnd we requested a simple charcuterie plate for lunchThis shop really is a cute place for lunchMe pretending to feel warm… the dude has his door propped open, it’s a windy 52 degrees in here!Back on the streets, of course it’s begun to rain some moreMany of the historic Todi streets actually look more like tunnelsI was walking randomly around thru the drizzle … most of these buildings are 16th century, give or take, but I think the roads themselves were laid out in Roman times, if not before—this place has been inhabited for at least 3000 years, I am imagining the layouts of the roads are pretty freaking old
It’s Friday night after a long week—remember we are working full time here, strangely enough—and it was time to treat ourselves to a big-deal dinner! Little did we realize when we made reservations that one of Sam’s teams was going to go critical tonight, so dinner had to be a bit of a rush!
For me, if ur gonna have steak, you have to begin with a gin martini… those of you who have been following along are probably laughing at this point!! When have I ever succeeded in getting a real martini here in Europe??? But one has to try….
It’s pretty crazy that in an olive-obsessed country like Italy they didn’t think to put any in a martini?? (That’s a lime slice in there BTW). But seriously it could have been a hell of a lot worse!Wine was fab, these Montefalcos are moneyDinner began with freebie appetizers of liver pâté, pretty amazingYou are looking at about fifty pounds of meat on a blazing hot piece of granite!!!Kind of an insane amount, but so so good!!On the way out, Sam is on her phone frantically trying to connect with her problem team—as you might imagine, cell data is really dicey inside of a huge ancient stone pileBack out in the PiazzaNighttime view of the Todi DuomoSee the driver down there aiming for us? He is still stopped down there because he has realized that WE ARE STRONGER!!!
