OK so it’s Sunday, we have a plane to catch, but before that we still have two amazing meals in Japan to enjoy! First order of business: fish market for breakfast. We wanted to try a new one, so alarms were set for seven AM and we were out the door by 7:30. We went two stops on the metro, then a crazy change to a different line, like a Monty Python-style insane change, then two more stops, then up a bunch of stairs, down a bunch of stairs, then finally:

Then it turned into a comedy of errors, trying to retrace our incredibly confusing steps. Back in the subway, I pulled out my hotel room key by mistake to pay, which shut down my entire lane for a bit lol but we managed the really intricate subway line change again in reverse and then took the subway in the wrong direction haha had to retrace four entire stops. But we eventually did make it, and even better: the old fish market was open today!!

We headed back to our old haunt, UniToro, but it’s closed on Sundays (I guess the sea-urchins are off celebrating). The second option, just next door, had completely changed into some other style restaurant, I think maybe a skewer place or something like that. What was that book, “You Can’t Go Home Again”? Well this wasn’t quite as bad as all that lol, but it was oddly jarring to return here to find things had changed, especially after our triumphant visit to the immortal shabu-shabu place!

We checked out of the hotel, grabbed our bags, and hiked to the final gourmet destination of the entire trip: a Michelin-starred eel place, where they begin by introducing your eel to you (and yes it is very much alive, lol I have video). They later serve the eel to you prepared in two different ways.

lol this was actually a rather fitting end to the gourmet portion of the trip: a writhing eel in a basket, a disembodied liver floating around in a soup: kind of sums it all up 😀
