Scary post to write! Apparently I was tired of writing in my journal by now so I don’t have much to go on… but also the sadness of approaching our final destination is setting in. I honestly never wanted this trip to end, but here we are heading back to Tokyo, and the next stop after that is us all splitting up and going our separate ways again
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, and in any case I have been dying to see Matt finally experience Tokyo!! But this morning we are still in Hiroshima
Dang Matt had the best view from his hotel room!!For once we were not watching Sumo 😀Finally I am not the only grumpy early morning person! We went to a Tully’s for coffees and pastries, our last moments in HiroshimaI love these origami vibes from the Hiroshima train stationI am watching the luggage while the boys find us train lunches for the four-hour train ride to TokyoIt’s more difficult than it sounds!OMG new toilet innovation: I know, just what we needed haha but check it out, interactive real-time updates of open stalls!!! Note the “spray seat” indicator 😀Train is arriving!This was a constant feature every time we got on a trainWe couldn’t get seats together but we’re all pretty close… close enough to all smell the bad dried squid “snack” we’d mistakenly acquired at Don Quixote’s 😀There I am!Our train lunches were honestly kind of nauseating but hey we triedTo make a long story short, we did make it to Tokyo and in our hotel we were back on the seventh floor lol I think we had seven hotels in two weeks, trying to remember which room we were in on the inevitable seventh floor was getting pretty confusing!ScreenshotScreenshotHere’s where we were (I still have no idea lol)Here’s the very zoomed-out view, you can see Sapporo on the top right, Hiroshima at the bottom left, it has truly been an odysseylolWe spent an hour walking around the crazy Ginza streetsCrazy Tiffany store on the left, crazy Apple store on the rightOh yeah, I remember this now, this was the hotel with the 14th floor lobby… when you wanted to get to your seventh-floor room, you first had to take the elevator up to the 14th floor, then take a different elevator down to the seventh floorKilling time before dinner, we hit up a pretty cool dive barThey had a great map of where all the breweries were
OK so now we should all get misty-eyed, we are returning to the amazing shabu-shabu place featured in song & story, it’s like our favorite place in the whole world, and we have been looking forward to finally introducing Matt to this restaurant, just hope it doesn’t disappoint! On the fourth floor obviously 😀This place is so special, been coming here for thirteen years hahaIt’s almost like a dream being here with both boyslol we always have to begin with this stupid appetizer, it’s a tradition by this point hahaBacon-wrapped asparagus was pretty amazingAnd of course dead fish were to be had….Now suddenly it’s about to get seriousHah it looks a bit like a beef pizzaAnd so it beginsIt just goes on and on, so freaking good!!!We ordered a bonus round of beef, we were so hungryThere was other stuff too but the beef was the star of the showPic of the restaurant on the way back from the terrifying bathroom lolhaha of course we had to have the same crazy glass noodle dessertOne final look back.. can’t believe Matt finally made it here!!All the other fourth-floor places hereLater, I had a toilet emergency 😀Many moons ago, on Robert’s sixteenth birthday we stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel here in Tokyo, so tonight we went to the bar there (which we didn’t do in his sixteenth year lol)It’s REALLY cool!! Amazing views of the cityAnd amazing Japane$e Whi$kies lolWas just so cool to be thereThe lobby is pretty cool tooThere’s where we just were!And finally, my room beer haha just before bed….
