To make a long story short, we are freaking freezing!! It’s always in the 40’s here, howling winds, rain/sleet; we just didn’t pack for this!!
And today I had a crap day at the stocks—you might ask why am I stressing about work stuff here? Well, that was kind of the point—we wanted to experience what living here was like! Not vacationing here, but living & working like the locals do. They have bad days, I have bad days: life! It makes the entire experience so much more real IMHO even when I get grumped because the stocks didn’t behave.
In the meantime, we have been sorting out restaurants by how much heat they give out 😂
There she is! Removing at least one of several layers 😂Notice I’m down all the way to just a shirt: this is a really warm restaurant!!My pre-steak gin martini, as close as they can make itOur very first wine *not* from the local area: we decided to grab this one from Sicily, it rocked. 2014, I guess not many people have been ordering it here in UmbriaDelicious liver-based starter, obviously Sam is thrilledApparently a cow somewhere has diarrhea?? Hah it was really good tho, some pumpkin-based soup thingie, plus it was nice & hot!!!Finally, dinner! I always order meat here “medium” if you can believe it, can’t imagine what “rare” looks like!Dessert was an apple-based something-or-other
Now it’s the next day, time to head to Pane e Vino, aka Nonna’s, for lunch–you can always tell by the nice yellow walls.
Yup I am still huddling beneath my ole trusty USM hat Lasagna was on the specials menu!!!
When we first arrived in Italy this time, we asked a guy in Rome about lasagna, and he informed us that it’s very rarely made, and seldom on a menu. So when they read out the daily specials today and lasagna was one of them, Sam pounced! It was one of our best meals here.
Dessert was pudding of some sortSam leaping out of the way, homicidal vehicle incoming!!!Huge-ass bus behind me, squeezing in and around parked/frightened carsFinally on the street home to the flatYup that’s our door!Dinner that night was leftovers heated up in a frying pan, served with tortillas and salsa 😂 (and a crossword)For lunch the next day, we high-tailed back to Pane e Vino’s on the off-chance lasagna was still on the specials listIt was still on the menu! Of course we both ordered it: so good (and so nice and hot!)Look at that blue sky: clear & cold—did I mention it’s in the 40s???Beautiful, if chilly….
