When on the road, I make it a point to watch dumb local TV, which in Japan looks pretty much like this lol it’s either food or Sumo, 24/7
This morning we awoke around six (hummm maybe we weren’t quite over jet lag after all) but it’s been my job to try and get coffee up to the room (mostly because Robert doesn’t care that much but I really want it) and this hotel was more difficult than most: there’s a guard keeping people out of breakfast! But when we checked in they had said there was free coffee upstairs, so I soldiered on: the guard looked suspiciously at me but I somehow got across the words “coffee only!” and I was allowed in… this was a battle every morning, but I always won, it was probably due to the desperate look on my coffee-deprived face 😀
This morning we took something called the Sendai Loople which, as the name suggests, runs in a loop around some of the favorite tourist attractions. Our first stop was the mausoleum of three Japanese feudal lords, where we learned their blood types were A, B, and B lol Got to always stay alert!Incredibly ornate structures!
We got back on the Loople Bus and we were very happy to have seats this time, but when we tried them they were literally too small for our legs to fit lol. We got off next at a local university which had a really nice natural history museum.

Then we took the subway back to downtown because it was lunch time! Seated across from us on the subway train was a cute family, the Mom, the Dad, and two small girls. The kids kept eyeing us, especially Matt, and I just assumed they weren’t used to seeing Americans riding the subway. But then I noticed them looking from their Dad to Matthew and back to their Dad again, with excited looks on their faces. Turns out that the Dad was wearing his Boston Red Sox shirt, and Matt was in his Red Sox jersey and ballcap! Huge smiles all around, it was pretty amazing really.
There was some loud procession going on downtown which we didn’t understandAnd then we had pizza!!And an actual red wine for once! Lunch was three pizzas, liver pâté, two beers, the bottle of red, plus two desserts: $75, pretty crazyWe wandered around downtown some more and ended up in this store called Don Quixote, which is just over-the-top attention-grabbing, with brilliant colors everywhere, wacky lights, bells & whistles, honestly pretty hilariousWe found my favorite flavor of Pringles!
At Don Quixote we loaded up on mysterious snacks for the train, and three giant beers: $15
Before dinner, we returned to our little third-floor bar, and the owner successfully made me a martini!Here’s a nice piece of artwork showing him creating a cocktail in his bar lolMost of the beer advertisements here seem to feature really drunk people hahaHeading down the street to our exciting steak restaurant!!This place was pretty fancy, and the steak was incredibleJapan has fallen for QR codes pretty hard, they are literally everywhereEven in the steak place fish items are well represented lolBibs on, we are ready!!It honestly got a little mysteriousBut then the meat finally showed up!!Oh baby!I thought this meal ranked right up there with our meals in Kobe, the beef was just astonishingly goodWe even got an honest-to-goodness dessert!Now it’s time to waddle back to the hotel, that was a heck of a meal
