Sendai has been a bit of a surprise, the city is very comfortable, the meals have been freaking amazing! Not sure what I was expecting but this has been one of my favorite places on the whole trip. So naturally, we are leaving it for a day trip today lol
It’s back to the train station! We are taking a local train to a very small town which features crazy monk habitats thousands of stairs upThe Japanese countryside is always so lush!We arrived in the small town, this all looks pretty straight-forwardBut in real life, it’s a bit more challenging… circled is one of the monk places we actually foundSo we get off the train and head into town… you can sort of spot Robert & Matthew far ahead on the right, as I lag behind taking picturesLuckily we are just in time for lunch, which we had at this noodle placeLunch began with this stuff! It was a little weird but really goodThis is the outside, you can see my reflection in the front window lolSadly we did not see (nor get attacked by) any monkeys…Some shrine with incense goingJolly fat monk dude! There was some local festival of some sort which we (of course) didn’t understand lolWe saw a bunch of these exotic-looking dragonfliesOh boy, the steps begin….If you look closely, especially near the top, you can see a giant scary red warrior hiding in thereLooking down on some monk buildingsJust a few more stairs….Maybe this is Elon Musk’s house? And of course, ‘way the hell up here, there is a fully-packed vending machine hahaA rare pic of me!There’s the small town stretched out below usIt is just so scenic up here!Whew, finally back at “sea level” hahaAnd back across the bridge to the train station
So we got back into Sendai and picked a random dinner restaurant on the ninth floor of some building…. the first two dinners here have been amazingly choreographed and sublime, so we just winged it for this last one
Our dinner place was the top floor (I think)They had these giant rice balls which we ordered too many of lolTongue again lol I just can’t seem to order a good oneShot of the train station on the way home
So dinner was kind of meh but it was still fun! Hard to believe we have just had our final meal in Sendai… how does the time fly by so quickly? Sushi, earthquakes, steak, city Loople Bus, all those morning coffees, the sumo on TV every night, all over? Really gonna miss this place… but tomorrow will be totally fun: back on the bullet train to Tokyo, then continuing on to Kobe!!!
