Wacky random ramblings about wacky random trips

Lunch lol

It’s honestly not that exciting of a lunch but fucking hell it’s IN PARIS!!!! Even a McD’s is exciting here! But we did this trip so low-key… in retrospect I have no idea why we did so; but with a couple second’s more retrospect, of course we did: how could we not, we are still freaking exhausted!! Had no energy to plan, little interest in planning, just wanted to enjoy the simple act of being here and having no stress, no worries, no appointments, no plans whatsoever.

Accordingly, we just grabbed lunch at a simple-looking bistro on the corner when we happened to get hungry.

Ya know that’s what I ordered 😀
And it was friggin amazing!! Great nosh from some random luck-of-the-draw Parisian bistro somewhere
Here’s the street-side advert… we could puzzle out everything except the last line
Luckily we had Google Translate to save the day!

So yeah… “Yaite” was actually “Tarte” 😂

And it was really good, paired with a Calvados
Before I forget, here’s Sam’s lunch, but I can’t remember what it was called

Anyway, however you slice it, lunch was amazing… eventually in a pleasant food buzz we wandered off and wound up in St Sulpice.

The floors in these historical masterpieces can be as thought-provoking as anything else… who has walked here? Who has cried? Rioted? Died? Recovered? Wished they where still here? Lit a candle? Lit a candle every day for decades? And then I always wonder about the craftsmen: who cut these tiles, and who laid them? Who walked on them for the first time, who polished them? And if you want to get more meta, who else has had these exact same thoughts over the hundreds and hundreds of years of people contemplating it all, and what if anything might we all have in common? (“Loss” is too obvious an answer)
I could spend a week here, just in… contemplation. But it would be a lot cooler to have keys to the entire place and snoop through everything, particularly the crypts and other secret places!
Meanwhile, back in our crude modern secular society….
Still on the Left Bank, this is where the earnest student agitators from centuries past used to gather and foment vociferously against the horrifyingly-bad cause du jour (whatever it was)
And here’s a cool clock which I don’t know the history of 🙁
I bought Sam a beautiful new apron!!!
Conciergerie again from a different angle

The day was so beautiful, we were both pleasantly full and at peace, and we’ve missed Paris so much that we took oodles of pictures and I just can’t resist posting them in batches, no narration necessary

These ridiculous box-shaped purses seem to be the rage this season… we looked at one, and you literally can not fit your phone into it! But at a mere two-thousand euros, you can just buy several, chop your phone into pieces, and be the most stylish unreachable person on the street!

We had a really beautiful day in Paris, walking our legs off lol but heading back to the hotel it was quickly clouding up and we began to get rained on by the time we arrived. It’s November, so not too warm here at the best of times.

Normally in Paris we would have reservations for almost every night, but this trip we did none of that, figuring we’d deal with things as they came up. So it’s freezing outside now, raining hard, and we are not up for an ordeal at a fancy restaurant somewhere across town. So we swallowed our pride and just took the advice of our hotel, which was a sort of touristy-sounding place very very close by (which totally sold it haha).

Maybe it’s a Paris thing, but the “touristy” place that we settled on simply because it was close was really good and totally made the evening.

Need I say more? 😀 OMG it’s been years and years since I’ve feasted on a starter like this… as I dig in, I’m already planning our next trip to Paris
Sam is not sad to see this amazing dish either!!
This place honestly looks a bit like something out of a movie lol
OMG…. the memories. Graves is one of my favorite regions of Bordeaux, and this is a wine we used to order all the time at Santa Fe or Le Toiny in St Barth’s. So we splurged. Was the wine worth the price? Not really lol but it was totally worth it for the memories, I’d order it again given the chance
The meal progressed at a snail’s pace 😀
I have a feeling dinner is about to get lit!!
