Wacky random ramblings about wacky random trips

Dinner then off to Spetses!!

Pete on a laptop with a beer streetside
Here’s me outside the hotel using Sam’s laptop, trying to complete hellish paperwork having to do with recent sad events… I do look reasonably upbeat tho!
Outside bar area now closed due to rain lol
It began to rain so I had to move inside; there across the street is where I just was, on the computer, and that’s my fav bar guy clearing up… Sam told him what happened to my mom and he’s been super nice to us
Very fancy-looking dinner indoors
Dinner was awesome! We started outside but the combo of rain and the really loud boisterous cheers of fans chanting their team fight song convinced us to move indoors.

After dinner we ordered the delicious-sounding raspberry tarte for dessert!!

The bizarre "tarte" itself
So yeah…. it turned out to be a painfully modern “deconstructed” tarte: the pastry is the pile of crumbs, the middle isn’t fruit at all but sorbet, and the top is just sprayed-on marshmallow cream toasted with a flame-thrower. But I give them an A for effort, and honestly a B for execution—it was really good!—but it didn’t match what was advertised IMHO so demerits for that 😀
Good ole Lay's potato chips haha
Some things though are always true to their word 😀
my ferry ticket with giant QR code and everything
OK it’s time to hit the road—er, sea. I took screenshots of our ferry tickets, cause ya know, nothing in Europe is ever as simple as it seems. Our “gate” is E8, which seems pretty obvious, like a gate at an airport! Turns out when we got there, “E8” refers to at least a quarter-mile stretch of continuous docks, all the ship names are in Greek, and it’s pouring down rain and it took forever to track down our ship!

The day did not begin very auspiciously… we were up all night worried about missing our early wake-up alarms and then having to pack, having to find a taxi and try to explain where we thought we wanted to go, etc., etc. And naturally it was absolutely pouring when it was time to get out of the taxi, and the Athens port was confusing as hell.

The rainy seaport in Athens
Maybe this is finally us? No one is really admitting to anything….
Here comes our mysterious unnamed ferry
Turns out this was us, and once we got on board, we found that the ferries are actually pretty snazzy
Inside the ferry is pretty posh, a lot like business-class on an airplane
Me on board, looking slightly like Maynard from Tool 😀
Port of call we didn't realize we were making!
A confusing stop that wasn’t mentioned on our tickets, but we were lucky and decided not to mistakenly get off here haha

We finally landed in Spetses and just like that the rain vanished, the sun sprung up like in Teletubbies, and we knew we weren’t in Kansas any more. The Greek islands are so incredibly wonderful!!!

Finally arrived on the island of Spetses
Typical Spetses scene
The hotel is absolutely wonderful
We walked from the dock to our hotel… Sam seems pleased with it!
Nice shot of the Aegean!
This is literally just outside the doors of our hotel
View of the water from dinner at the hotel
This is the view from dinner at our hotel
Karadimos family Syrah with dinner
Had a really nice wine here
Sunset over the Aegean
Half of my head enjoying dinner 😀
View the other way from dinner lol
More view….
Sun has set!
And more view….
Hazy red remains of sunset
It’s kinda insane here photographically speaking so steel yourself for more pics of the same thing over and over again tomorrow!
