Wacky random ramblings about wacky random trips

Still no plan

So where the heck were we?? Oh yeah, no plan, no life, etc.  Who knew getting Airbnbs to talk to you was so difficult!! Sam has been finding great-looking places and reaching out, but no one replies! “Hi, I want to book your Airbnb for two weeks!” Reply: crickets… why??? Don’t people who list their properties want to actually rent them?

We have been desperately trying to arrange for a place to stay, but we just can’t get anyone to respond! This is another reason we’re so frustrated, we hadn’t expected that the open properties we found wouldn’t return our calls. Why the heck do you advertise an available airbnb when you can’t even… oh never mind, #Italy lol if it were easy, it wouldn’t be Europe.

But that’s an issue for later: for now, we’re secure in our familiar hotel for two more nights. And then we had good luck–as I was asleep, Sam worked her magic: Air Italia got back to us (a minor miracle in itself), and we could perhaps pick up our lost luggage tomorrow?!? Plus, she found (AND managed to book!) a pretty cool-looking apartment on the other side of town, so we can check out some totally new areas!

Sam’s lost luggage contained her magnesium meds which are pretty important: she really needs the huge horse-like pill every day. So we went to a pharmacy to get replacements, Mg is a pretty easy supplement to find and they got us a new bottle, no worries. Then we got it home and opened it… Sam peeled back the protective top of the bottle, and we both sneezed at the sudden release of white powder… instead of the expected horse-pills, it’s a bottleful of fine white powder!! Can’t wait to go through airport security carrying that 😀 The look on Sam’s face when she saw that it wasn’t the normal pills!! Well, what could we do? We estimated a dosage–bizarrely it has to sit in water for a while until it turns clear– and then she got to experience how bad it tastes lol but anyway now we have it, and we should get back to the normal pills shortly, no worries.

So, back in Napoli, what to do? Tons of things to see but OTOH it’s a big city, kinda grungy in most places, insane driving goes without saying 😂

First things first, the Duomo!!
Underneath, in the crypts
And they’re ready for Halloween!!
Back outside, these four-lane highways are so cool, this one is typical of those in the area
Another random one
We’re on our way to Christmas Alley–do you think Sam’s excited??
OMG 😀

Off a side street, we glimpsed an open door into a small church, so we ducked in just to check it out

It was like entering an ornate jewel-box
OMG!
I don’t think this place was even on the map!
Check out this door!!!!

This is so Napoli! You are pushing and shoving your way through noisy crowds and traffic and dirty graffiti-stained grubby alleyways, and randomly you find yourself in five-hundred-year-old immaculate sacred places… I hate to over-use the word, but it is sort of magical.

What a transition: from centuries-old high art, to penis-shaped pasta 😀 I guess the expression was “from the sublime to the ridiculous”
REMEMBER THIS SIGN!!! We randomly encountered this restaurant–it was amazing–but it was almost impossible to ever find it again because we forgot its name, and the streets here are pretty crazy and indistinguishable
Soup to start! Sadly I have very few pictures, but the restaurant was full-up, we only got to eat here because Sam could talk to them and say that an awkward table set outside would be fine for us
Here’s inside–will we ever find this place again??

By some miracle we got back to our hotel in time for the stock market to open… only to find that the wifi–sorry, weefee–in our room was crap! I carried my computer around the hotel and found a very strong signal on the rooftop patio.

So I set up here in the breakfast area, multiple monitors and everything, and attempted to trade the opening, pretty much for the first time here!!
