Views of Mt Etna from the train to Messina, you can sort of see it far off, smoldering dourly… hey maybe Smaug is asleep in there!I took a million shots from the train in the hopes that one of them would turn out lolKinda strange to be suddenly without the boys… we have no idea what Messina might be like. New adventures for all!!
I have no pictures of arriving in Messina, which probably means it was effortless lol I remember getting off the train, finding our AirBnB on Google Maps and easily walking to it.
Hah I took this pic from the top of the giant clocktower, kinda shows where we are in the grand scheme of things. Check out the harbor on the top of the pic! We’re about halfway down, literally a few easy blocks from the train station. All our AirBnBs look awful from the outside… anyway this is us!Inside was possibly the sketchiest elevator yetBut inside we had one of these, are you jealous yet??? I wonder what their bathroom product is called….Literally my only pic inside this place… we totally cheaped out, we’re here for two nights for like $100 a night. The point was to stay in Messina for a bit, who cares about the apartment being “luxurious” lolNow that we’re here, we head out… the main square is literally just down the street a bitThe Duomo is a grand old place despite centuries of tragic mishapStatues & monuments are all over this city
Messina is so quiet after Catania and Siracusa! We wandered around a bit more, but we had had a long travel day and were tired & hungry; naturally no restaurant was open yet–nobody eats here till like eight!
We needed a place to sit, so we sort of crashed this place… they seated us anyway despite not being open yet lolThis is literally the view from dinner
Turns out we had decided to rest our legs at the L’Orso in Duomo, one of the best pizzerias in Sicily!
Dinner was pizza… wtf else should you have in freaking Sicily?!?
Pizza was sick, amazing–what are some other good words?? Supposedly this place is in the top 10 list of best pizzas in Italy, maybe in the world.. the crust has four different flours and the cooking of it involves three different stages. We’ve never had anything like it, we *both* said this was the best pizza we’d ever had. Seriously!!
Another terrific Sicilian redSome wacko hot sauce lolThe requisite wacky dessert lolPro tip: be sure to sit on the right one!!Literally right across from dinnerOur walk back home… so calm & quiet!!
