Jet-lag is killing us, day two is always the absolute worst!
Sam at breakfast, trying not to look tiredThe buffet breakfast here is pretty cool, with actual honeycomb! Here’s where we are… great location, but we never did sightsee much; the first couple of days were to get over jetlag mostly, and anyway Sam had Zoom calls most of each day
But we did get out for meals at least, and those were interesting. It’s been a very long time since we were served something we didn’t know how to eat 😂 It’s artichoke season here in Italy and so we ordered the special appetizer of the day for a starter, and it appeared thusly:
Hmmmm, how to even approach this…. well the middle part, the heart, looked edible at least, and it turned out to be pretty good! Our waitress eventually came by to explain that “a lot of people eat the whole thing, but only if you like it of course.” So we tried some of the dead-looking bits, and they were actually kind of interesting, think “hot crispy artichoke chips”Here it is a few minutes laterI tried the other special, beef cheeks, the first couple bites were fun but then it became just too heavy (read: gristly & snotty haha)… that’s an artichoke puree BTW cause, ya know, they’re in season 😂Any guesses for what Sam had?? This was the day’s special gnocchi, it was weird as hell, they should have called it Gnocchi NaCl
Then, still hungry, we ordered a dessert, and y’all know about Europeans and their wacky desserts… so to be safe we ordered just a simple lemon tarte, which appeared as… this:
Palette-wise, it was weirdness on the front end, slowly giving way to chalk on the back endThe end of meal freebies were honestly the best part!!!! And of course the grappa 😀Back to the hotel: all this time I figured we were on the musical Piano floor! Then Sam informed me that “piano” was Italian for “floor” 😂OK, first day of working abroad! There’s my mobile trading set-up, and in the distance is Sam’s deskThe Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel has a bizarre layout but it is pretty posh IMHOClose-up of Sam’s stationDinner was our first pizza of the trip, with a terrific dessert! The hotel is both historic and beautiful, we choose well!
And we made it back from dinner in time for Sam’s final Zoom call, she should be finished by midnight or so….
