Survived another night on the floor! Apparently, in this room with the window open and the street light immediately outside us, I spent the night snoring Robert’s ear off. Sorry about that, something about a lack of mattress must have disturbed my sleep 😀
Tokyo streets were deserted this Sunday morningEven after two solid weeks in Japan, some things are still quite incomprehensible
For our final breakfast in Japan, we obviously had to return to the big fish market!
Smells like we found it!Even on a Sunday morning this place was jam-packed—who knew fish would be so popular here?!?Just soooooo good! We settled on the uni place next to the famous uni place, and it was as amazing as before.Robert’s shrimp looks bent on escapeBreakfast beers as per our custom 😀Back out on the street, everything honestly looks fantasticHeads or tails?We had loads of time to kill before our flight, so we wandered around the Ginza district“H” was our main line this time going to and from the ryokanNo idea what these flowers were but they’re all over downtown and are very fragrant In Tokyo Station we found a beer hall in the “Shopping Zone” and managed to kill even more time‘Way down on Basement Level 5 (!!) in the endless Tokyo Station, we await our very last train trip: the express to the airport, Narita Terminal OneBut we’re not exactly new at this train thing by now 😀
At the airport, we absolutely sailed through security, and ended up at the fairly sterile & boring ANA lounge. However, let it be said that they do have self-pouring beer machines! Alas I have no pictures… anyway, we chilled in the lounge for about two hours, we tried sake, whiskey, white wine, some sort of curry. I’m trying to savor the moment even in this less-than-ideal place because I’m with Robert, still in Japan, still technically on the trip: trying to be in the moment as best I can.
A cool new plane feature I hadn’t seen before is the front-facing camera, so you can watch from the nose of the plane all through landings and take-offs!
So it was Tokyo to Chicago, where Robert and I went our separate ways, sad the journey was all over but sorta ready to be home for a bit also. Wow what a trip!!
To this day I still keep my (expired) Japan Rail Pass front & center in my wallet, never fails to give me a smile. It’s also fun that I bought this wallet in Tokyo with Robert ten years back!And on a shelf at the house are my three souvenir ceramic sake cups from the various breweries and tastings we did.
Sadly, for Japan 2023, that’s a wrap! Like “our” chef said when we left Kobe, “see you next time!”
