Cold Raw Dead Oysters

Can you guess that oysters aren’t necessarily my favorite thing? I always love two oysters… the third is “fine”… then please don’t show me any more 😀

We had only two nights in Hiroshima, and we were sad to leave. It’s a really nice place to visit and we wouldn’t mind staying longer—but on the other hand, they are famous for their oysters…… so we obviously had to check them out. We dutifully trekked over to the place our bartender recommended.

Oyster restaurant Hiroshima
It’s always great when you can go to a place a local guy recommends!

This is the entire restaurant
Labelled oysters in Hiroshima
The labels tell you where each oyster is from….
Japanese map of Hiroshima oysters
… and then you find the name on the map and you know at least which coast they are from!
Huge fucking Hiroshima oyster :-D
For scale, check out Robert’s hand holding this one 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 For what it’s worth, Robert says he still prefers American West Coast oysters
Squid-ink risotto Hiroshima
After the oysters comes—obviously!—squid-ink risotto
Oyster pizza!
And then—what else?—oyster pizza!
The whole oyster restaurant Hiroshima
Is that a zebra in the back? Sometimes Asian things are hard to understand
Turns out that what looked like an exciting video-game arcade is actually six entire floors of nothing but stupid grab machines 😡

Dismayed by the lack of video-games, we decided to hit up our local bar again.

Asian cocktail Hiroshima
We asked our bartender again for “Asian cocktail,” which basically means make whatever the hell you want haha we loved this bar, if we’d have stayed longer I’m sure we would have returned here every single night!
Wall of oyster shells Hiroshima
Next door to the bar there is an oyster restaurant where I guess you sign your shell and they hang it on the wall? Or perhaps these are all tombstones marking where people died from eating bad oysters?
Yup, things are very Asian here 😀
