We woke up and walked down the street to the small cafe for a bit of breakfast–we finally figured out to order two coffees (both for me) to save time.
The coffee here is really good, and so is the freshly-squeezed OJ
It’s Saturday morning and we have a weekend free—why not head to the Isle of Capri! (Notice how I made that rhyme?)
The ferries are pretty reasonable, let’s make it happen! Here’s our portThe port is literally just across the street from the big castle!
Finding the right ferry, then figuring out how to purchase tickets, took place in a very Italian manner: all kinds of confusing. But we finally bought our two tickets, and even better, we found our pier before the ship departed!
And Sam is on a freaking mission to get to our ship—notice the new outfit 😂😂Our ferry to CapriThe ferry is completely packed, but it’s only a fifty-minute ride so who cares
Deciding to go to Capri on the spur of the moment is pretty exciting! This is (again!) so out of our (Sam’s) comfort zone: we have no place to stay, no place even picked out for lunch, no nuthin: we’re just goin and we’ll figure it out when we get there.
Nice view of a container ship that’s been lingering around Napoli for days and days—they’re prolly on strike or something lolWe are disembarking now, and these are our very first views of CapriRare shot of your friendly correspondent haha, I am wearing my new Malta hat😂😂😂 OMG best warning signs ever!!! So appropriate for Italy: don’t drive off the dock!!!
The area just around the docks is very crowded and touristy, we wanted to get into the nice areas ASAP. But we don’t know where those are lol having done absolutely no research. So we pull out Google Maps, and I reason that this area kind of in the middle of the island with lots of tightly-packed streets was probably where everything was. Naturally, the direction to them was pretty much straight up 😀
About halfway, we finally found a place to stop for beersYup this was kind of how I imagined the Isle of CapriAfter our beers, we headed back out to the “street” lolThe streets are still going up and up and upWe made it to the top! Next up: finding lunchThat’s our olive oil on the right, and we have just vowed we are upping our olive oil game back at the house! No more Costco gallons, no more Kroger pints: we’re heading to Jungle Jim’s and getting the real deal: it’s just too good to put up with crap any moreThis wine is probably just pretending to be local, the Migliera Capri rosso, but it was pretty niceSam sez this is the best pizza so far, it’s apparently “four seasons” with one of the seasons missing hahaI had tiny shrunken scallops on a bed of plateDessert was absolutely sick… lemon on lemon on lemon (no Don thankfully), this was one of the best dulces so farI am a sucker for this kind of thing… no we didn’t buy anything but I was kinda temptedThis is the road down to our hotel, that ridiculous conveyance down there is something wimps employ to carry their baggage instead of manfully hauling them through the streets, scattering tourons right and left as you go (credit to my imaginative sister for the word “tourons,” it fits so well and we’ve been using it for years haha)Hotel is found! Sam did it, and negotiated a special rate (hah of course she did: you show up looking obviously American, start speaking Italian, and they just melt)Amazing tiled floor in the lobbyAmazing tiled floor in our room!I did this search for laughs, but you can see where we are, the blue dot at the bottom is Capri. No McDonalds though.
So now we are set: we arrived, successfully had lunch, and got ourselves settled into a very nice hotel–we are both quite impressed with Capri!
