Wow a month’s worth of living, freezing, getting rained upon, and eating out has come to a close. So now we face a final choice: where to have lunch on this final day lol
Could there be any doubt? Gotta return one last time to the most memorable restaurant of the entire trip 😀
Sam saw something on the specials menu which mentioned liver, and figured I would probably really like it. But just to be safe, we used Google Translate on it first
Hah that third item down is the famous Guinea Fowl dish which set Sam up for three days of solid barfing!! It would have been hilarious if that thing had unexpectedly showed up for our last lunch 😀Fabio, the fair-haired maitre’d lol pulled out a special wine for us, maybe he felt bad about keeping us hostage at lunch the other day 😂 A word to the wise: always order any wine with Montefalco on the label, they all seem to be fabulousAs usual it is a brisk windy 48 degrees here, but also as usual it is beautiful Hah check out these two pix: an artichoke exploded overnight all over our street!! This is like ten feet up the street from our doorstep, artichoke pieces absolutely everywhere, very Italian 😀I had some free time on our last day so I revisited the 800-yr-old DuomoView straight up from the front doors
My tiny iPhone pix don’t do it justice unfortunately. The most special aspect of this visit was that the cathedral was absolutely empty. Maybe my first time in an 800-yr-old building all alone?? Wow it makes a difference!! Silence pressing in on my ears, fear of making a sound, shadows lengthening with the setting sun… hard to describe how special this experience was! LITERALLY I was the only person in this entire place!
This bell might have a bigger “dong” than I do!! It is precisely my height, what an incredible piece of castingThis guy looked to me like a demented Mayor McCheese… if you stare at it, you can see the eyes and the mouth 😀Immerse yourself in this picture for a moment, try to absorb the absolute silence, no movement anywhere, the darkness slowly growing as the sun sets, all this in an 800-year-old church… I have spent so much time in cathedrals, it’s a shame I’m not religious!! It would be nice I guess, but I just can’t drink the kool-aid… however I sure as hell can honor those who came before me, and do my best to respect their beliefs and their efforts, and experiencing these moments in these spaces maybe allows me to slightly share in what my ancestors must have felt in these hallowed structuresTo quote Ted Lasso, this is like taking a tinkle next to John Holmes 😂This is an under-appreciated cathedral IMHO but perhaps experiencing it completely alone has magnified its uniquenessI always study ancient floors, pondering who has paced them over and over throughout the many centuries Over-exposed shot of the piazza just to show the detail in the doorsEnd of the last day in Todi
