Wacky random ramblings about wacky random trips

First Night in Napoli

Felt great to be INSIDE the hotel and off the crazy streets!!
I love the old-school European hotels where you always leave your key at the front desk

After an extremely long day, it was great to finally dump off all our stuff in our very own hotel room. But we were starving to death, which meant we weren’t quite off the Napoli streets just yet. The hilarious front desk guys loved engaging Sam in Italian–we might be the first American tourists they’d ever seen who even attempted to speak Italian, and they got a huge kick out of it. So after a lot of verbal to and fro, all in Italian, they sent us off to find the (far away) restaurant they heartily recommended for dinner.

Oh boy, here we go
There she is, Italian lady in her element!
Every little alleyway makes you want to explore it
Every few blocks, you pass something like this
Hard to believe we are still on our very first day!
This is typical.. what you think is a pedestrian street still has vehicles attempting to mow us all down
Thanks to Sam, we found our pizza restaurant!
These were our neighbors, and of course Sam talked with everyone!
First pizza of the trip–insane
Mine was pretty good too!
View down a mysterious street somewhere
View down a different street
On our way home, the crowds are definitely thinning out
Almost back to the Hotel San Pietro

The first day of a trip like this always amazes me: the startling transition from our dull suburban lives to literally jumping off the deep end into prime Europe!! To have had a normal Cincinnati day yesterday, to finding ourselves wandering around two-thousand-year-old Napoli in the mysterious dark nighttime, all full of amazing pizzas…

Our hotel room is boiling…. fiddled with the thermostat a bit, finally realized someone had twisted the control dial around more than 360 degrees (maybe Jason Kidd stayed here!!) and I finally got the AC working…..

But even after all these experiences tonight, we’re not really on vaca until we meet up the the boys in Catania tomorrow 🤞
